The first law of robotics, as defined by science fiction author Isaac Asimov in the 20th century, is:
- "A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm."
This is mentioned during the events Space Pilgrim Episode I: Alpha Centauri by Dex, who has been programmed with the first law. Asimov also wrote two subsequent laws, though these are not mentioned directly.
- "A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law."
- "A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law."
