Grotes are large, highly aggressive arachnids which were native to Planet Leto before the terraforming process began.
As was discovered by John Pilgrim and Professor Karen Morant, some of them still survive in small pockets underground, such as at the Dusk Island Mines.
The name comes from "Grote Slang" - a cave dwelling creature in African folklore.
